Richard Hack: Thank you for the article on pride flag. I contacted the mayor and other commissioners with the following email because of your article. Keep up the good work of informing our community of actions relevant to us.
Mayor Gary Resnick.
I support displaying the pride flag year round in front of city hall and was surprised to see it removed.
Displaying the Pride flag sends a positive and welcoming message to our visitors, residents and business owners that the city acknowledge the contributions of the gay community to the revitalization of Wilton Manors. Visit any major city and you will see displays of pride by the city in the gay area of the city.
While I understand a pride flag has no importance to the straight community, the pride flag is very important to the gay community, symbolizing the many years we fought against discrimination .
I recall the city of Wilton Manors only 11 years ago and the condition of the city prior to gay business opening and gay residents moving into the city.
We should acknowledge and pay respect to those responsible for the positive changes. Display the Pride flag year round.
