FORT LAUDERDALE–Dapur Asian Tapas and Lounge, a restaurant and cocktail lounge popular with the LGBT community, suffered damages after a fire that started in the early am hours on Tuesday. The fire at the restaurant located at 1620 N Federal Hwy in Fort Lauderdale was reported at 3:51 am and was brought under control in less than half an hour.
According to Fire Rescue Capt. Greg May, the fire apparently started in the kitchen area and adjacent storage area, causing structural damage to the rear of the building and smoke and water damage to the remainder of the restaurant.
Owner Edi Mulyanto is still surveying damages, and plans to reopen the restaurant as soon as possible. No one was inside at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Dapur Asian Tapas and Lounge opened in August, 2011, and has been the site of many LGBT fundraising event. The Agenda will update this story as information becomes available.
