16- ROBIN BODIFORD — LGBT advocate, bankruptcy attorney
Robin Bodiford has a well-earned reputation as the LGBT lawyer in Fort Lauderdale. Not that she’s the only lesbian attorney in town, but she is the only one who worked tirelessly to make domestic partnerships a reality in 1999. “We handily passed that into law,” she remembers, “as the commissioners were all our friends, (with the notable exception of John Rodstrom, who voted against our gay rights laws, twice). Ironically since his district changed to include gays, he changed his tune.” Robin Bodiford’s legal practice centers on the LGBT community, covering wills, trusts, probate, gay family law, and consumer bankruptcy. When asked about her clients, Bodiford is still fighting for our community; “I often say that 99% of my clients are gay and the other 1% are our family and friends!”
