DOBBS FERRY, NY – When the administration of The Masters School found out that honor student Rachel Aviles was a lesbian, Aviles claims the school gave her the choice of either quitting the school or getting expelled. A popular student and senior, Aviles is said to have maintained a high grade point average and participated in many extracurricular activities.
Though many of her fellow students knew that Aviles was a lesbian, the school’s administrators and teachers did not become aware of the fact until a class trip last spring. During the trip, Aviles and another girl pretended to be a married couple and held hands. When questioned about her sexual orientation in the headmaster’s office, Aviles admitted to administrators that she was gay.
Despite the fact that many students and teachers came to Aviles defense, she was expelled from The Masters School.
