WASHINGTON, D.C. – Earlier this year, Speaker of the House John Boehner announced that the U.S. taxpayers will be paying attorney Paul Clement to defend the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) to the tune of $520/hour for up to $500.000. Clement was President George W. Bush’s Solicitor General.
However, defending DOMA appears to be more expensive than originally anticipated because, according to Think Progress, Clement has already reached his $500,000 cap so the House G.O.P. has increased his budget by another $1-million from the American people.
