BLESSING OF THE PETS
The Parish of Sts. Francis & Clare (NE 3rd Street, Fort Lauderdale – 954-731-8173 ) and Church of Our Savior, MCC (2011 South Federal Highway, Boynton Beach – 561-733-4000) will hold their annual, “Blessing of the Pets” service on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 10 a.m. The service is in honor of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. Congregants and members of the community are encouraged to bring their pets to be blessed. In asking for a blessing of our animal friends we acknowledge the blessings they bring into our lives. This service is a time of thanksgiving for the unconditional love between animals and humans.

“SPIRIT OF HOPE” GALA
Broward House’s “Spirit of Hope” Gala – “A Night at the Cotton Club” – will be held on Friday, October 7 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Signature Grand Mansion in Davie, Florida. Broward House’s “Spirit of Hope” galas are one of the most anticipated events of the South Florida social season. This year’s gala is honoring Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Tuesday’s Angels and AIDS Healthcare Foundation. Come out and relive those days of the secretive Speakeasies, where fabulous flappers will be waiting to welcome you. You will be treated to a three-course meal and all the hootch your liver can handle. Throughout the evening, you will be dazzled by the Cotton Club cast. SENIOR EXPO
The LGBT Senior Expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 22 at The Pride Center at Equality Park, 2040 N Dixie Highway in Wilton Manors. The event will provide LGBT Seniors with a comprehensive overview of healthcare services available to benefit the elder LGBT community. The event will feature a trade show with various LGBT-friendly medical, professional and financial services providers, who are eager to assist our community.  DER EINSTEIN DES SEX

The Stonewall National Museum & Archives (1300 East Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale) presents the film “Der Einstein des Sex” on Friday, September 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. “Der Einstein des Sex” is the life story of Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld, a German Jew and physician who established the field of sexology, and fought militantly against German anti-sodomy laws in the late 19th century. The script reveals main characters in Hirschfeld’s life including impossible love interest Baron von Teschenberg, and Hirschfeld’s aides– young Karl Giese and his guardian angel, the transvestite Dorchen, as they establish the First Institute of Sexual Sciences in Berlin in 1920, and struggle to keep it open during the rise of the Third Reich in the mid-1930s. German with English subtitles.

GLBX AFTER-HOURS

Hamilton Gallery at 615 East Las Olas Boulevard will be hosting the Gay and Lesbian Business Exchange (GLBX) After Hours Networking event on Thursday, September 22nd, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. GLBX is a Council of The Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce. MIAMI SHORES, FL – Pridelines Youth Services presents its sixth annual fundraising gala, “Masquerade” – also known as Pridelines’ “adult prom”.

This year’s gala will be held Saturday, August 27, beginning at 7 p.m. in Jungle Island’s Treetop Ballroom and will feature a cocktail reception, silent auction, dinner, dancing and live entertainment by Corey Michaels. Until July 31, gala tickets are being sold at an “early bird” price of $80 per person or $900 for a table of 10. After that, tickets will increase to $100 per person or $1,200 for a table of 10. Tickets can be purchased on the Pridelines website, www.pridelines.org, by clicking on the “upcoming events” tab.

“The adult gala is the most anticipated and most important Pridelines fundraiser of the year,” said Victor Diaz-Herman, executive director.

“It’s also an over-the-top affair, as our guests pull out all the stops for their costumes; and with this year’s ‘Masquerade’ theme, you can expect some insane masks and headgear to show up. I’m sure the feathers will be flying on the dance floor!”

New for this year, Pridelines will be honoring two community leaders at the gala – one individual and one organization – for their commitment to LGBTQ youth in South Florida. The inaugural honorees will be Robert Loupo, co-founder of the Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) and executive director of Safe Schools South Florida, and Temple Israel for supporting LGBTQ youth by providing the space for Pridelines drop-in center for over 10 years.

Money raised from the gala goes to support Pridelines’ mission of educating and empowering South Florida’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and questioning (LGBTQ) youth and their straight allies through programming, counseling, support and referral services from a safe and diverse environment. In addition to proceeds from ticket sales, an exciting silent auction will help raise funds for the organization. Among the items and experiences up for the highest bid are several seven-night resort packages, spa and salon treatments, dinners at Miami’s hottest restaurants and many luxury gift baskets.

KEY WEST, FL– The Equality Florida 2011 Key West Gala was their best ever, with close to 400 enthusiastic Equality supporters in attendance.

The capacity crowd included political, community, business and faith leaders. The very strong presence of straight allies showed that in Key West we truly are “One Human Family”. By the end of the night, Equality Florida shattered their previous fundraising record with an all-time high $138,000.
