DALLAS, TX – The Rev. Fred Phelps’ Westboro Baptist Church protested at one of the recent Miami Heat-Dallas Mavericks playoff games in Dallas, Texas but the protesters didn’t get much support from  the basketball fans.

A member of the Log Cabin Republicans was assaulted, being called “faggot,” during their convention at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas, last weekend.

The gay Republican group is holding its national convention at the hotel.

A spokesperson for the Dallas Police Department said the incident isn’t being treated as a hate crime, since the suspect’s use of “faggot” was provoked by the Log Cabin member and his friends. The DPD said that both the Log Cabin member and the suspect were intoxicated when the incident occurred around 1 a.m.  The spokesperson added that the victim chose not to press charges meaning the case will be dropped.
