Donors made commitments in their estate plans
Members of the Community Foundation Legacy Society were honored recently at a luncheon held at the Signature Grand. Legacy Society members are philanthropists who have designated a gift to the Community Foundation in their estate plans.
More than 100 guests attended the event, which included Legacy Society members, professional advisors and Community Foundation friends. The Signature Grand and Cleveland Clinic of Florida were major sponsors. The keynote speaker for the event was Dr. Sally Karioth, professor of nursing at Florida State University.
She shared humorous and inspirational stories from her experiences as a nurse, teacher, writer, talk show hostess and nationally-renowned grief therapist.
Community Foundation of Broward CEO and President Linda Carter described several life-changing stories about Legacy Society gifts, including a $1 million donation to form the Gertrude Gray Memorial Scholarship Fund. Started in 1997, the endowed fund has granted more than 180 scholarships valued at more than $750,000.

s also recognized all Legacy Society members attending the luncheon. “The Community Foundation of Broward is grateful to have more than 100 Legacy Society members, who represent more than $120 million in bequests that will come through estate plans to make Broward better – For Good.
