BALTIMORE, MD – A new Gonzales Research & Marketing Strategies poll finds Maryland voters almost evenly divided over legislation allowing same-sex marriage in the state.
The Gonzales poll found 48% of Marylanders who vote regularly favor a law allowing same-sex marriages, while 49% of that population are against allowing same-sex marriages.
The poll comes as both sides gear up for another legislative fight next year over same-sex marriage, this time with Governor Martin O’Malley, a Democrat, in support of the bill.

BALTIMORE, MD – Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley told proponents of legalizing gay marriage in Maryland to prepare for a long battle and urged them to work hard throughout the state to persuade voters to support equal rights. O’Malley sponsored legislation proposing same-sex marriage, a bill to be decided in next year’s state legislative session.
A spokesperson for Equality Maryland said successfully changing the state’s law that marriage must be between a man and a woman will require a coalition of supporters working in every Maryland county.
