BEAR Nation South

Bear Nation South will be held on Saturday, October 22, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. at Bar 721, 721 North Lincoln
Lane in South Beach. Free Herradura Tequila shots for everyone. Featuring Bear Nation resident DJ, Pabel Lima, legendary DJ, Mike Mucci and the Bear Nation Go-Go Bears. No cover. $8 Bud and Bud Light bottles and Southern Comfort/Jack Daniels Honey Shot combos, $8 Chambord Vodka cocktails, $1/hour parking right next door.

Miami Beach Arts Gala

On Saturday, October 22 at the Miami Beach Convention Center, Ballroom D. Cocktails at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. The evening will honor Mary Luft (Lifetime Achievement Award), Neisen Kasdin (Visionary Award) and George Neary (Cultural Arts Champion). All money raised will be granted to arts organizations to produce events on Miami Beach. Tickets $300, VIP tickets $500. “HAIRSPRAY”

On Thursday, October 13, the Miami Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. in association with the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, presents Theater Night at the Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Mile Theatre (280 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables). The Chambers will join forces for the last preview performance of “Hairspray” with a pre-performance reception with wine and hors d’oeuvres in the theater lobby at 7 p.m. $30 for the reception and the performance. “Hairspray” is Broadway’s hottest musical-comedy phenomenon and a joyous tribute to the ‘60s. TASK FORCE MIAMI RECOGNITION DINNER

The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force announced that straight rugby star Ben Cohen will receive its Humanitarian Award on October 15 at the 15th annual Miami Recognition Dinner at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach. Cohen is the first straight sports star to dedicate his philanthropic efforts to the benefit of LGBT people. Cohen recently founded and serves as chairman of The Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation, the world’s first foundation dedicated to raising awareness about the long-term, damaging effects of bullying. The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force produces the event and donates the majority of the net proceeds to other nonprofit organizations serving the Miami-Dade LGBT community.

SYMPOSIUM?ON?AGING
The Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (MDGLCC) will hold a Symposium on Aging, with the objective to educate and explore the needs of the LGBT community. The Symposium will be held on Saturday, September 24th, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Hyatt Regency Miami, 400 SE 2nd Avenue in Miami. The Symposium on Aging seeks to open a discussion and create an understanding of the needs and expectations of this powerful and growing segment of the LGBT community. The fee for admission, which includes seated lunch and refreshments throughout the day, is $35 for members of the MDGLCC and $55 for non-members. The event is open to the public. 011 TRANSCON: JUSTICE?SUMMIT
TransCon will focus on aiding legal and professional institutions gain a greater understanding about issues dealing with the transgender community concerning institutionalized discrimination, the basics of legal gender transition and the challenges of gaining access to healthcare, among other subject matter. The conference kicks off with a feature film at O-Cinema on Friday, September 30, and will continue at FIU Biscayne Bay Campus over the course of the following 2 days. Saturday, October 1, will offer a full day of workshops and lectures from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and continuing on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a day of community and leadership building. Admission prices are as follows: feature film presentation only (additional) $15; feature film presentation with conference $10; conference registration-one day $35; conference registration-two days $75.
