MANILA, PH  – Boxing star Manny Pacquiao, a Filipino world champion, has been forced to apologize after saying that gays in same-sex relationships “are worse than animals.”

Writing on his Facebook page, Pacquiao said he remained against gay marriage but was “not condemning LGBT.”

“God Bless you all and I’m praying for you,” he added.

Pacquiao, who is running for a Philippine Senate seat, made the remark in a video posted Monday on local TV5’s election site.

“It’s just common sense,” Pacquiao said in the remarks posted online by the TV5 network. “Have you seen any animal having male-to-male or female-to-female relations?”

According to the University of Oslo, about 500 species, ranging from primates to gut worms, have been documented engaging in same-sex behaviors. According to the organizers of the 2006 Against Nature? exhibit, it has been observed in 1,500 species.
