Harris, a former offensive tackle who played for six seasons in the NFL, told CNN that he regrets not being able to admit his sexuality during his pro career.
“I wasn’t publicly out until, I don’t know, beginning of the Super Bowl when it was publicized,” said Harris.
Kwame’s sexual identity became an issue after he and an ex-boyfriend were seen arguing publicly and a subsequent comment from current 49ers cornerback Chris Culliver, who said during a radio interview that there were “no gay people on the team.” Culliver later apologized for adding, “They got to get up out of here if they do.”

]]>On Thursday, November 15, the riders, supporters, and event sponsors took part in Dedication Ceremonies and a Candle Light Vigil.
The Friday morning Ride Out kicked off the 165-mile long trek at MorningStar Renewal Center in the east-central Miami-Dade community of Pinecrest. By early afternoon, the riders began to arrive at the 100-mile point, Hawks Cay.
SMART Ride organizers say that this year’s top ten fundraising individuals were Timothy Haymon, Ed Pascoe, Julie Slater, Michael Dillon, Michael Fowler, Will Richardson, Gabriel Hernandez, Neal Harry Barton, William Renaud, and Paul O’Rourke, and the top five teams are the SoBe SAFE Riders, Pride Pack, Friends of Rosie’s, Let’s Roll Bitches, and Live Free Be Strong.
According to SMART Ride founder Glen Weinzimer, the ride raised over $860,000. The SMART Ride began in 2003 as bicycle event to provide 100 percent of pledges for the communities to use for direct services benefiting those with HIV/AIDS. Prior to last weekend, $3.3 million has been raised to support that goal.
“The University of Arkansas tennis team of 2012 came out to watch me win,” exclaimed a delighted and grateful Blair, who also serves as Chairman and CEO of Multimedia Platforms, LLC, and who recently celebrated his 48th birthday. Blair says he was especially moved by the respect he was shown “as one of the players who helped build the Razorback program in the mid 80s.”
Blair was ranked in the U.S. Top 5 in Division I college tennis in 1985, and was ranked Top 5 in the U.S. in Junior tennis in 1983. He played professionally during the 1980s, scoring wins over Wimbledon champion Pat Cash at the Tournament of Champions in Forest Hills, NY, among other professionals.
]]>But Wood, 29, has recanted his story, according to an official Incident Report filed by investigators. “In an interview this afternoon with Madison Police detectives, the victim in this case recanted his earlier statements in regards to this crime,” the police report reads. “This crime, alleged to have occurred on High Street in the South Police District, will be cleared as ‘Unfounded’ for case reporting purposes.”
Wood also told authorities that in a separate incident his car had been vandalized, with graffiti that “included the phrases ‘house-trained Republican faggot,’ ‘traitor,’ and ‘ur like a jew 4 hitler [sic].’”
After his alleged assault, Wood posted to Facebook, “I will not be bullied into voting for a gay man simply because I am gay.” And Jimmy LaSalvia, the gay conservative activist and founder of GOProud, called the now-debunked attack an example of “hate and vitriol directed towards a gay conservative from gay liberals.”
As to official recourse in the wake of these new facts, the Madison Police incident report notes that, “Once follow up investigation is completed, MPD’s case file will be reviewed with Dane County District Attorney’s Office.”
]]>He said that gay marriage would lead to anarchy and that the morality of a country is defined by its law.
He further said he doesn’t oppose benefits for gay couples, but to call it marriage is not something he would ever agree with or think that the government has the right to change the definition of marriage.
]]>It has been four months since Wilton Drives’ Sidelines has gone smoke free. How has it affected profits? Positively, according to Jennifer Morales, the marketing director of the famed sports bar. She said, “While the economy still seems to create a challenge to small businesses in our area, we have noticed an incremental revenue uptick since we went smoke-free.
We are optimistic that this trend will continue in the coming months.”
The announcement to go smoke free was announced last year and went into effect on the January 5th of this year. At the time, Sidelines owners Laurie Whittaker and Marty Kildea stated that, while a number of small businesses across the country face difficult and challenging times due to the nation’s harsh economic conditions, Sidelines has remained unaffected and has been able to ride the storm and remain solvent. They recognized, however, that in order to sustain economic health and continue to grow, Sidelines must continue to improve and evolve. Whittaker and Kildea said that they held discussions with their staff, customers and other business people and decided to “bring a breath of fresh air” to Sidelines.
“It must be reiterated that these changes in no way affect the ‘sports theme’ that has made Sidelines the repeated award-winning entertainment venue of Fort Lauderdale since their opening in 2006,” said the bar in a statement. “The only things that will not change are the fun and friendly staff, the demand for a high level of customer service and a passionate desire to provide Fort Lauderdale’s LGBT community a pleasant and comfortable environment in which gay sports enthusiasts can come together in a place where they can feel at home.”
This has clearly worked. As Jennifer Morales said, “We are so delighted by the response received from our customers thus far. We have seen new faces come to Sidelines – and even seen some old ones that are returning – because of the changes we’ve made. The outdoor patio area is very popular amongst our smoking friends, and they have welcomed the change. “
]]>The Lifeceutical Group, a company dedicated to improving a person’s quality of life, has joined forces with the Brian Neal Fitness Challege, a three 1-hour a week fitness boot-camp that is free and open to the public and held at Island City Health and Fitness in the Shoppes of Wilton Manors. The program lasts for a total of 12 weeks. Incorporated 16 months ago by founder Bruce Bertman, Lifeceutical’s main office is in Boca Raton with a satellite office inside Island City Fitness. Lifeceutical, itself, focuses on improving a person’s quality of life, with anti-aging and hormone balance and replacement therapy for its patients. Clients of Lifeceutical are generally men and women, 35 years old and up. Lifeceutical also offers a HCG diet plan that, they say, if you don’t lose a pound a day, you are most likely cheating. HCG is a prescription hormone that is taken once a day for 21 or 42 days as part of a custom protocol that allows for the reduction of stored body fat.
Lifeceutical’s Boca office is a full-service location, but the space occupied by Lifeceutcial in the Island City Health and Fitness space is more specialized. “We do mostly Botox there,” said Bertman. “We meet with the patients there three days a week and work out of that office. We discuss hormone therapies and we discuss our diet programs. It’s more of a screening environment.”
Bertman went on to say that they also hold Botox and filler parties and they bring the doctor (who has over 30 years experience) to the Island City location during the week where patients can make an appointment and meet with the doctor. Gym members can discuss with the Lifeceutical staff how they would like to be helped and if there is some interest, and the Lifeceutical staff feels there is a true medical need, the patients are then brought to the main clinic for blood tests and to see the doctor. Bertman and Lifeceutical got involved with the Brian Neal Fitness Challenge when they were informed of Neal’s program by the staff of Island Fitness.
“We had to get involved,” said Berman, “we’re all about longevity and improvement in quality of life. It was perfect for us. This is an older group and they are looking to improve their quality of life and make major changes and I love to be a part of that.” Recently, Lifeceutical held a contest with the Brian Neal participants and one lucky person won an entire 10-week testosterone protocol. Bertman got his start in Internet marketing and did work for some doctors in a similar field of expertise. “It seemed like a logical progression to get into it myself,” said Bertman. “If you take a look, there are 10,000 people a day turning 65. It’s the ‘baby boomers,’ so I felt it was a great opportunity and a great way to help people.”
