Fort Lauderdale Commish Dean Trantalis Wins Reelection

Posted on 11 March 2015

FORT LAUDERDALE — Incumbent Fort Lauderdale and LGBT Commissioner Dean Trantalis won a landslide reelection March 10 against challenger and newcomer David Tabb.

With 23 of 23 precincts reporting, Trantalis received more than 80 percent of the vote compared to just over 18 percent for Tabb.

Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler was on hand at the Warsaw Coffee Company on 13th Street to congratulate Trantalis.

Quality of life issues dominated this election from beach restoration, homelessness and urban development to a new aquatic center and a proposed marina for the global mega-yacht community.

As the only LGBT member of the commission, Trantalis is often the lone vote against the conservative tide, standing up for his constituents and arguing intelligently on behalf of the issues.

Meanwhile, incumbent Bryan Caletka of the Davie town council was also reelected.

Municipal elections were held March 10 in eight Broward County cities and two in Palm Beach County.
