WILTON MANORS — Police arrrested a 68-year-old man on Feb. 11 after a surveillance video allegedly caught him trying to set fire to a popular piano bar in Wilton Manors.
Julio Edwards faces burglary and arson charges in connection with the fire at Tropics Piano Bar & Restaurant on Wilton Drive.
Police said the manager arrived the morning of Feb. 11 to find ashes near the back door and smelled smoke before calling authorities.
A review of the video from surveillance cameras showed a man holding a large cup of liquid that he tossed onto a wooden fence outside the restaurant. The video then showed him trying to ignite the fence with a lighter.
Employees told police they recognized the man after watching the video.
Earlier, Edwards had been issued a warning by police for trespassing on restaurant property.
