JC Mounduix: The Next Hurricane To Hit

Posted on 13 February 2015

At 22, JC Mounduix (mon-doo-icks) is no stranger to trying new things, jumping in headfirst and swinging through the forest of life screaming: “Live with no regrets!” And that he does.

Raised in the Fuencarral neighborhood of Madrid, JC was born into a family with strictly conservative views. Feeling confined and unable to express his true self, JC did what most LGBT individuals do when they are presented with a window out – he jumped through it, leaving home when he was 18.

Freedom arrived when he enrolled as a student at Florida International University. Inexperienced and speaking very little English, he hit the ground running, learning the language while making new friends. He joined a gay men’s fraternity on campus, Delta Lambda Phi, began to shed his skin as a foreign transplant and became a gym rat.

Four years later, business degree in hand, JC earned a personal trainer’s certificate in 2013. Last March, he began power-lifting, and by the end of the year, he broke four U.S. records in power-lifting for his weight division.

“I make the best out of every opportunity,” he said.

He parlayed his impressive physique into modeling gigs and a job with The Opium Group – a well-respected talent management company in South Beach servicing high-end clubs.

With so much accomplished in such a short amount of time, where does he see himself in five years? “I don’t really think about it,” JC said. “I live in the moment.”

Now he’s in graduate school studying business with a minor in international relations, but that hasn’t stopped the job offers from rolling in. A couple of weeks ago he expressed an interest in bartending on his highly popular Facebook page and was immediately offered two positions at local clubs.

So he took the leap (again), and after shadowing a working bartender for the last week and a half, he’s ready to tell all of his friends and followers:

“Come and have a drink with me at Le Boy in Fort Lauderdale!”
