Broward County Declares Jan. 6 ‘Marriage Equality Day’

BROWARD COUNTY– Broward County Commissioners proclaimed, Tuesday, January 6, 2015 as “Marriage Equality Day” in Broward County.

Vice Mayor Martin David Kiar read the official proclamation at 11 a.m. at the Commission meeting that took place at the Broward Governmental Center.

Newlyweds Todd and Jeff Delmay (Broward County residents) and members from Equality Florida will be present to accept the proclamation.  Todd and Jeff Delmay were among the first to be married yesterday in Miami Dade County and were plaintiffs in the original lawsuit filed by Equality Florida in Miami-Dade.

Effective January 6, 2015 at 12:01 a.m., the Broward County Clerk of Courts began issuing same-sex marriage licenses.

The proclamation states that the Broward County Commission supports marriage equality and wishes to “encourage all Broward County residents who wish to exercise their fundamental right to marry to obtain a marriage license from the Broward Clerk of Courts.”
