Posted on 23 December 2014

ORLANDO, Fla. (compiled from news reports) — A 23-year-old man was convicted of murdering a transgender woman and sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Kentz Vernes Louis was found guilty of shooting to death Ashley Sinclair. Her body was found on April 4, 2013, in a wooded area in Orange County, Fla.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that because Louis is a repeat offender, he will serve his entire sentence.

Sinclair was known by her stage name Mahogany Singleton and was popular in the local LGBT community for her performances.

Police did not publicly identify a motive for the killing, but said Sinclair and Louis were acquaintances.
