WILTON MANORS, Fl. — Attorney Cal Steinmetz has died. He was 62.
Steinmetz (who is pictured in the middle) passed away early in the morning on Dec. 5 after a battle with brain cancer.
“It pays to be a good guy and Cal was always the good guy,” said friend and fellow attorney Miriam Richter. “There wasn’t a mean or nasty bone in his body. I don’t think he ever ticked off anyone off except opposing counsel.”
Steinmetz handled everything from minor criminal defense to complicated to trust litigation. “He loved going to court,” Richter said.
Richter, who rented office space from Steinmetz, said he was a huge baseball fan and sponsored teams in South Florida and Washington, D.C. He also mentored and opened a lot of doors for young lawyers, she said.
Steinmetz moved his practice from Washington, D.C. to Wilton Manors about six years ago.
A memorial is planned for this Sunday, Nov. 14, at the Pride Center: Equality Park from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
