Today, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to consider appeals by several states where lower courts had ruled same-sex marriage bans to be unconstitutional. The states are Indiana, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin and Oklahoma. In some of those states, such as Wisconsin, marriage licenses to same-sex couples began to be issued immediately upon the news. But the decision by the country’s highest court has to potential to make same-sex marriage legal in as many at 11 more states.
Florida State Attorney General Pam Bondi has not responded regarding the decision. Bondi had said in the past that she would wait for the Supreme Court to make a decision in order to drop her objections to legalizing same-sex marriage in Florida.
