Wilton Manors, FL – On Thursday, Mixed Martial Arts fighter Jessica Aguilar will be in town for a meet and greet and to discuss her involvement in the lesbian, bisexual and transgender health directory, LBTHealth.org.

“Everyone deserves to have quality health care,” Aguilar said in a recent press release. “We hope the directory opens doors for women in the LBT community who would otherwise not have sought out medical or mental health treatment in fear of shame or being misunderstood.”

LGBTHealth.org is a free health directory with over 300 health care practitioners in Broward, Dade and Palm Beach counties. The goal is for LBT women to find healthcare locally without having to worry about social stigmas or prejudices. The project is being spearheaded by The Pride Center, Aqua Foundation for Women, Women in Network, SunServe, BLAST and others.

“The directory is a vital need within the LBT women’s community,” said Denise Spivak, President of Women in Network in a recent press release. “LBT women so often do not seek out medical care, for reasons that include discrimination, lack of understanding and lack of insurance. Having a resource that says to the community ‘these medical professionals understand and will treat you with care and respect’ speaks volumes and, hopefully, will make a profound difference in the way that LBT women view health care.”
