Venice, FL – Recently, we reported on Casa Di Amici, the Florida condo association that adopted a new policy which would effectively ban non-married couples (gay or straight) from buying or leasing a space within the community. Now, the association that caused quite the uproar has retracted the policy, claiming that it wasn’t meant to ban gay couples. Board member Bill Moniz says the intent was never to discriminate, but rather “to keep corporations from coming in and buying up multiple units in the neighborhood,” according to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. “We never wanted to prevent anyone from living here – I intend to make this right,” Moniz told the Tribune. The condo board has approved the changes to the declaration (which changed “married couples” to “any two people”), but condo owners still have to vote on a decision within the next 45 days to approve the changes.
