Pembroke Pines – While gay marriage may be just around the corner, Pembroke Pines may be making history first. The city of Pembroke Pines is “considering” equal benefits to city employees who are registered as domestic partners. Speaking on the topic, commissioner Iris Siple said, “This is a right and a benefit that does not need to be bargained. This is the best thing for our employees. We have to take the leadership role on this.” Police and firefighter union representatives stood to support the equal benefits at a recent meeting. The discussion will continue to unfold at the city’s first meeting in June.
