Aarhus, Denmark – A group of Danish scientists are on the brink of a possible cure for HIV. The scientists are using a new strategy where the HIV virus is reactivated from its reservoirs, bringing it to the surface, where the body’s natural immune system can then destroy it with the aid of a vaccine. Fifteen people signed up for the trial and the Danish Research Council handed over $2.1 million to support the cause. The procedure appeared to be a breakthrough in the labs, responding to human cells quite well. This will be the first time it will be tested on actual humans, and will take some months of research before anything can be decided.
