New Zealand Ruling Party Calls for Legalized Gay Adoptions

Posted on 25 July 2012

AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND – This week, New Zealand’s ruling National Party endorsed a measure to extend adoption eligibility to couples in civil unions.

The motion, which passed by about a two-thirds majority at the party’s annual conference, includes same-sex couples.

The resolution of the conference is not binding, and Kiwi Members of Parliament are free to vote their consciences when the bill comes to a full legislative vote.
