There will be a follow up opinion piece in next week's Agenda, and I am looking for on record commentary from persons connected with The Shoppes. I will say that one person who spoke with me on the record who is a business owner made a strong and what I thought to be an honest argument in favor of the towing policy. For the record, the writer, Alex Vaughn, is the former editor-in-chief of the Agenda, and wrote the Q-POINT piece as a concerned member of the community, rather than in any official or quasi-official capacity based upon his former affiliation with the paper (and current affiliation as a friend of the present editor, Yours Truly). Best Regards. Cliff David:

Littlefield Thu, 12 Apr 2012 03:11:36 +0000 http://floridaagenda.com/?p=13545#comment-20598 Many, many gay men have been asking "our newspapers" to write articles about the ruthless and unscrupulous towing policies of business to which our dollars provide enrichment. There has been much angry talk in private and public venues for many months from many persons that have been victimized. So, while we are pleased the Agenda has featured this article, we are not pleased that the paper only does it when one of their own wants to vent. Towing companies have become bloodsuckers in south Florida. The above article is an important story of backstabbing that needs to be exposed! We wish and hope the Agenda will follow thru and do a service for the gay community about a disservice plaguing us! Although I go there almost daily, I wasn't away of this new policy and how it was being implemented. I recently met a guy who swears he went only to the Alibi for a few drinks. He came out and his car had been towed. He never went to any other establishment. Yet he still paid a high price for patronizing The Shoppes. Now I feel even less likely to patronize these establishments. It is unrealistic to expect someone to move their car if the decide to pop across the street to one of the other businesses on the Drive. About three weeks ago my new car was keyed in The Shoppes parking lot. I have since encountered three others who also had this experience. Seems to me the owners of The Shoppes are trying to drive away patrons, by threatening us with towing or vandalism.
