Kansas LGBT Activists Want Repeal of State Sodomy Law

Posted on 29 December 2011

TOPEKA, KS – The Lawrence [Kansas] Journal-World reports that the Kansas Equality Coalition is calling for the repeal of a state law criminalizing “unnatural” sexual activities–including same-sex relations. Although the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Lawrence v. Texas (see: “Passages, Page**) nullified the Kansas law (which likewise criminalizes oral and anal sex), it remains in the statute books. Coalition Chairman Thomas Witt told the newspaper, “We believe that the current statute, while ultimately unenforceable, is an affront to thousands of law-abiding gay and lesbian Kansans.”
