Virginia Board Votes to Protect Gay Youth

Posted on 16 June 2011

RICHMOND, VA – Despite the objection of the Virginia Attorney General’s office, the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice board voted to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation at its facilities.

The Virginia Attorney General’s Office said that the board did not have the authority to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation because the AG’s office had not done so. Previously, several attempts to write in the protection have failed.
