Gay Deportation Halted

NEWARK, NJ – The deportation of a Venezuelan dancer back to Caracas has been put on hold. The hold on the deportation took place one day after U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder set aside a deportation ruling on similar case.

Henry Velandia, 27, was legally married to Josh Vandiver, 29, a U.S. citizen, in Connecticut last year where same-sex marriage is legal. The couple currently lives in New Jersey. Last week, an immigration judge in Newark adjourned the case until December citing Holder’s decision a day earlier, awaiting an outcome in that case.
