Equality Florida Raises $100,000

Posted on 25 March 2011

MIAMI – Equality Florida, the state’s leading gay rights group, raised over $100,000 at their 2011 Miami Gala on Sunday in Miami Beach honoring George Sheldon, former head of the Florida Department of Children Family Services (who ended enforcement of the state’s former gay adoption ban); Ellen Freidin, who led the successful Florida Fair Districts campaign; and LGBT family attorney Elizabeth Schwartz.

Political, community and faith leaders, including many straight allies, gathered to celebrate this past year’s victories in South Florida and across the state and recommit to the work ahead. Over 250 people attended the benefit.
