New York City, described as one of the fashion capitals of the world has just wrapped up their fashion week with remarkable shows from well-known menswear designers like Dsquared2, Dior Homme, Prada, Jeremy Scott, Marc Jacobs, and a slew of others. But just wait South Florida! We all have something to be proud of and look forward to every year as well.
On Thursday, March 3, 2011 Miami Beach began its annual fashion week. Miami International Fashion Week brought out some stellar shows and interesting designers but it was rising star menswear designer Slobodan Bata Spasojevic that debuted an amazing Fall/Winter 2011 collection for men all across the globe! It was pure “fashion.”
During the show, guests, fashion editors, and photographers were greeted with edgy, yet handsome male models gracing the runway with designs that reminded me of the 1999 blockbuster hit “The Matrix.” Blacks, greys and beiges dominated the collection. With a mixture of fabrics and looks, the versatility and wearability of the line was very appealing. Trench coats made of leather and nylon, detailed with buttons and cargo pockets were the statement of the collection. Spasojevic provided a “wow” factor to the show by having the models walk down the runway with black and white space-age inspired goggles. Leather and patchwork detailed blazers, paired with leather cargo shorts and matte jeans were all a representation of the future of fashion.
The collection illustrated that men can be sexy but still maintain a level of masculinity. The rave reviews as well as the audiences applaud solidified Spasojevic as a contender in the world of menswear design. We look forward to seeing his designs in retail locations in South Florida.
