WILTON MANORS, Fla. –
The City of Wilton Manors, in conjunction with the Florida Agenda, will host a public safety forum on Thursday, Dec.16., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hagen Park Community Center.
The forum is in response to the recent violent crimes that have been committed against members of the LGBT community within and near the Wilton Manors city limits. It will also address the safety concerns of all the city’s residents, especially now that holiday season has arrived.
Wilton Manors Mayor Gary Resnick, the forum will help educate the public and the business community on what they should be doing to try to reduce crime, better protect themselves and be more vigilant. Law enforcement officials will be on hand to answer questions from the public. The city recently received a federal grant to add an additional police officer to the department.
“As the economy continues on its current course,” said Resnick, “there is more crime in our neighborhoods and generally in our area. However, [the city] got the recent crime stats last month and it showed that some crimes are actually decreasing, which is good news.”
