Did You Know?

By “CRAZY JOHN” BRIZENDINE

Were you aware that parts of the HBO mini-series, “From the Earth to the Moon” were shot at The Parliament House Resort? Did you know that the first lesbian bar in Orlando was opened by Sue Hannah? Have you ever heard of a nightclub called The Lazy Pig? All those tidbits of gay Orlando history and much more are available online at The GLBT History Museum of Central Florida’s website: www.gayorlandohistory.com.

The online museum augments the actual physical exhibits that the museum currently has in its possession. It’s really eye-opening to see pictures of The Parliament House when you could drive through what is now the courtyard. The Wall of Remembrance has moving tributes to the legacies of members of our community that paved the way for all of us still making history on a daily basis. As their mission statement says, the main objective of The GLBT History Museum is to collect, preserve and exhibit the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender community’s history in Central Florida. You have the opportunity to help make history with your donation of memorabilia or photos to the museum. You can contact the museum through the gayorlandohistory. com website. They are also in need of volunteers to help catalog and organize the physical and online exhibits. Make your mark and help to preserve our rich LGBT heritage here in Central Florida.

Don’t forget, the Come Out with Pride Parade & Festival will be on Sunday, October 10th in downtown Orlando near Lake Eola and Thornton Park. I’ll be there hoping to meet all of you as we frolic and celebrate the rich diversity of our Central Florida GLBT community! For more information on the parade and festival, check out the website: www.mbaorlando.org and click on the Come Out with Pride icon.

This is just my second column of “Central Florida Beat” and I want to thank everyone for the support and kind words about the Florida Agenda as we enter the Central Florida market.

If you have any news to share with the community, let me know. I’m so easy to find.

You can email me: buzzcrazyjohn@yahoo.com, hit me up on Facebook: www.facebook.com/crazyjohn , or even call me: (407) 621-1741. Twisted Tom will be here next week. I’ll see you again on October 7th. Bye for now
