Tracy is Aqua-licious

By JASPER LEVIN

Miami’s own Tracy Young needs no introduction. She is the celebrity deejay who has collaborated on numerous club hits with the likes of Madonna, Paris Hilton, and most recently, the Kardashians. She has also spun events for Lenny Kravitz, The Smashing Pumpkins, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, Russell Simmons, Cher, and even Madge and Guy Ritchie’s wedding reception in Scotland.

But her recent relationship with The Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Kim Zolciak shot the Miami spinner into the national spotlight and covers of supermarket tabloids. It was a rollercoaster ride that most thought was over – until Kim unexpectedly phoned into Young’s live interview on Sirius Radio last week. So is it on again? Who knows? The Hollywood gossip mill exhausts us and apparently, Young too. She’s fleeing LA and coming home again to spin the Aqualicious Tea Dance on Sunday, May 16. Tracy sat down for an interview with the Florida Agenda to promote the tea dance and her new album:

Florida Agenda: We miss you in Miami, Tracy! Why did you leave South Beach?

Tracy Young: I had career opportunities I needed to pursue. I will be back in Miami ultimately…I miss it!

Is it true shortly after moving to Los Angeles, you and your long term girlfriend split?

Yeah, sadly, that’s true.

Was Kim from Housewives of Atlanta the cause of the break-up?

No, Kim wasn’t the reason. My relationship with my ex ended months before I met Kim.

What do you like best about Los Angeles?

I would have to say the weather.

What do you like least about it?

The people! There is a huge difference between the East Coast and the West Coast. I never believed it but LA is a very lonely place. My happiness is most important to me at this point in my life and I belong on the East Coast. I am moving to New York and will be there permanently by the middle of the month.

Was it fun dealing with the paparazzi – or a nightmare?

It’s been crazy. I had never been in this situation before so it was a bit overwhelming at first. At the end of the day, though, I didn’t pay much attention to it. I didn’t even look at it half the time.

We listened to your interview on Sirius Radio’s “Derek and Romaine Show” and were shocked when Kim phoned in! Does that mean you are back together?

(Laughing) I no longer discuss my personal life. It’s been difficult for me to handle our situation so publicly.

They say you learn something new about yourself with every relationship. What did you learn about yourself ?

I realized that what people say and think really doesn’t matter at all. I learned to be more comfortable in my own skin.

What is your secret for looking so good?

First of all, thank you! Lots of laughing and water!

What’s next for you? What do you have planned for this summer?

Lots of work, a new studio album, a movie project, and of course rocking the dance floors!

Tracy Young spins the Aqualicious Tea Dance at Klutch (136 Collins Ave) on Sunday, May 16. 2– 7p.m.$20 advance/$25 at door. Tickets: www.aquagirl.org.
