Play it Safe at Stonewall Pride

Written by Richard Hack

WILTON MANORS—Amid heightened security after last Sunday’s Pulse Nightclub massacre in Orlando, the Stonewall Pride Festival has reassured the Agenda that the Wilton Manors Police Department will have extra uniformed and undercover officers on duty.

While the street festival begins at 3 pm, the flow of partiers will be under the watchful eyes of both the city’s police department and officers from the Broward County Sheriff. Backpacks or large bags will not be allowed to be carried on the street or into clubs at any time.

Likewise, bags of food will be confiscated, much as they would be when boarding planes, to eliminate any chance of weapons being smuggled into the event.

With 50,000 people expected to attend, however, it is unlikely that police will actually be conducting searches of property.

As common sense dictates, police have advised that if anyone sees anyone acting suspiciously, they are to report the occurrence to officers positioned throughout the event.
