Life Insurance Now Available For Those With HIV

Written by Richard Hack

WILTON MANORS—Life insurance for those who are HIV positive is now available locally. The newly opened offices of MacDonald Financial Services (1881 NE 26th St., #229, Wilton Manors) provides what it labels as an “holistic approach” to financial skillsets.

“Life insurance is often a foundation to a solid financial plan,” according to owner Travis MacDonald. “It provides security to a family, collateral to a business loan, or to adopt children,” he adds.

MacDonald has been in the insurance business since 1993, but has been unable to offer life insurance to HIV individuals until now. At the end of 2015, Prudential Financial announced that it would begin to offer 10 and 15-year convertible term life insurance policies for people with HIV.

“My goal is to help organizations like Our Fund, the Pride Center, and other non-profits in town educate their participants that new options are available,” said MacDonald.

“With a focus on income planning and wealth preservation, having the ability to now use life insurance as part of a financial and estate plan makes the playing field a bit more equal. Isn’t that what it’s all about anyway?” he asks.
