Ilene Berliner Steps Down

Written by Richard

For the past nine years, Ilene Berliner has served on the Board of Directors for The Pride Center at Equality Park.  She has maxed out her term and Mark Budwig took her place as Board Chair effective July 1.

“Ilene was an enthusiastic and involved Board Chair. Her involvement was unprecedented.  From the well-being and development of our talented staff, growth opportunities of the property and execution of programs for the community, she was present, connected, active and available.” said Robert Boo, CEO of The Pride Center at Equality Park.  “Ilene will remain active with The Center on an upcoming fundraising campaign.  I couldn’t be more grateful for all that she has done for the community.”

“The Pride Center has been a crucial part of this chapter of my life,” said Ilene. “I couldn’t imagine a life without giving back. There are more challenges ahead for us as LGBTQ people. Marriage equality was a major step forward, but there are still people who don’t understand our need for rights and protection. There is still work to be done to help those with HIV. Work to be done to stop the spread of the virus. Work to be done to protect us in the workplace. Work to be done to help teenagers struggling with identity. There is plenty of work to be done, and I plan on continuing to be involved. I am going to take some time to decide what to do next, but I will certainly still be active in supporting, fundraising and cheering the efforts of Robert and team at The Center.”
