Florida Gov. Ask For Prayers, Refuses to Issue State of Emergency

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Today, Governor Rick Scott released a statement about the tragic terrorist massacre in Orlando.

Among his thoughts: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, families and all those affected by this horrific tragedy.  We are a strong and resilient state and we will devote every resource available to assist with the shooting in Orlando.  Our state emergency operations center is also monitoring this tragic incident.”

While he said he was in “constant communication” with Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs and state and local law enforcement, the reality is that those officials are busy rallying local officers and forensic teams.

Scott’s promise to travel to Orlando to meet with law enforcement and local officials is nothing short of a photo and media opp in which he expects to be photographed with first responders.

It is precisely what these public servants do not need in this time of overwhelming expectations, which require their full concentration be directed toward the tragedy at hand.

Kenneth Tewell, writing on Facebook, commented: “I would have been better if Scott had not spoken. He sounded like he was stopping off for a short chat on the way back from picking up some bagels.”

Steven Schmiedel add: “He said on TV that he will insure that the people of Florida are safe. Why wasn’t that done before last night?”
