PENSACOLA – Dancing to the tune of the late Etta James’ classic “At Last,” more than 30 same sex couples celebrated a symbolic wedding ceremony last weekend during PensacolaPRIDE. The event, held in the city’s Seville Square on Saturday, June 16, was produced by Gay Grassroots of Northwest Florida (GGNWFL), which has held the event since 2009.
“I think any time we can do a public ceremony, it’s good,” said Rev. Rick Sosbe, pastor of Holy Cross Metropolitan Community Church, who officiated at the ceremony, wearing a rainbow-colored sash. “These relationships are just as valid and just as important for all of us.” GGNWFL held its last mass commitment ceremony in October 2010, and plans to do so annually during PensacolaPRIDE.
